Coaching for creative people

Helping you get unstuck and create in a way that feels more like you

I’m Matt. I was signed to Island Records in my late teens, dropped in my early 20s, then studied commercial music at university. And then I found creating became very, very difficult. I became caught up in what was right or wrong, trying to predict what would work rather than trusting what actually felt good. What had once felt natural felt tricky and to be honest, quite uncomfortable. And then I just stopped.

Since then, I’ve trained and worked as a Solution Focused Practitioner, helping people create meaningful change in different areas of their lives. Alongside that, I’ve found my own way back to creating in a way that feels much more like me (and feels a lot more fun and fulfilling).

Now I work with creative people who feel stuck, helping them feel more connected to their creativity and get clarity over which direction feels important for them to head in.

How I tend to work

I’m often told the way I work feels quite different from other coaching or support people have experienced.

I am especially interested in the times things are working, even just a little bit. When something feels easier, more natural, or more like you. That’s where we start. Rather than trying to analyse the problem in detail, we focus on helping you reconnect with what already works (even when it feels like not a lot is working!) and expand it. This usually leads to movement more quickly and in a way that feels more authentic.

Solution Focused practice is inherently collaborative. It’s my role to ask the questions that help you find your own answers. Because you’ve probably already tried following other people’s advice and found it didn’t quite fit, or didn’t stick. And perhaps that’s because you didn’t create those solutions yourself. I don’t think you can find true creativity when you’re following someone else’s plan. It often doesn't feel solid when you're walking someone else's path.

We’ll focus on small, manageable shifts, then pay close attention to what else changes. And that tells us what to do next.

Some people find things start to shift quite quickly. Others take a bit more time. We work it out together.
